3D Modeling a Kitchen

4 basic elements of 3D art

There are four basic elements of 3D art using a program like Cinema4D.

One is called Modeling where you build the structure of an object by using 3D primitives (Cubes, Spheres,…) In Cinema4D we use special tools to shape an object to any imaginable form. The tutorial linked mentiones these tools in the process of modeling a jet. Once it’s finished, it’s ready for the next element which would be Texturing.  Here you apply color and pattern to the surface of the object you are modeling and thereby give it a more realistic look. The third element is called Lighting and as the name says, it is what really makes your work look realistic by applying for example sunlight or spotlights. They can be placed anywhere in your 3D scene and you can have as many as you like. The last but in my opinion the most difficult is the Animation element. With this element you give the object motion by either animating the object or the virtual camera in the 3D world -it then looks like you are flying around the object. This will not be important for me though.  xD

Notice: It is extremely important that you plan your objects. Do not just go for it but think about what primitives your object will consist of, what textures will you want to apply and maybe a storyboard for the animation could be helpful. It saves a lot of time deleting hours of work just because forgetting something at the beginning.

The combination of all elements is used to create stunning 3D art like Beowulf, Spiderman 3, War of the Worlds, Chronicles of Narnia, Doom, King Arthur,

  1. chris, you really are putting a lot of work into this. in the end you’ll have a full-fledged tutorial, that is an amazing achievement. dont forget your personal perspective though – it’s what makes any blog special. keep going!
